How to Enable "kiosk printing" ( print automatically ) for Google Chrome on Windows

Silent printing means printing (particularly receipt printing) 'automatically', either by bypassing the print dialog altogether, or automatically 'printing' when the dialog appears.

This is very useful when scanning a large number of orders for despatch in Gateway OMS

Silent printing and full screen will run only on Google Chrome browser running on Windows operating system.

Google Chrome - Full Screen & Kiosk Printing Mode Setup

Kiosk Mode is a feature of Google Chrome which enables the browser to run only in full screen mode, without any toolbars or address bars. Since version 18.0.1, a feature called Kiosk Printing has been introduced. This is a little trickier to set up, but it is a good solution if you wish to lock down your computer to ONLY run Gateway OMS (enabling a kiosk mode shortcut from Program Files -> Start Up folder, for example).

Note that currently Kiosk printing requires Google Chrome 18.0.1 or higher. Which is available on the stable channel, so please ensure your version is up to date.

How to enable Kiosk Mode Printing for Google Chrome

  1. Download & install Google Chrome  here: http://www.google.com/chrome

  2. Check that your receipt printer is set as your default printer

  3. Launch Chrome and check that the Chrome Version is at the latest version
    (18.0.1 or higher )

  4. Type about:flags in the address bar and ensure that the Disable Print Preview flag is NOT enabled (Print preview must be disabled for Kiosk Printing to work)

  5. Close the browser

** You may have to make the following edit described bellow to the target when Chrome is totally shut down, closing chrome isn't enough. Open task manager, go to processes, find chrome, 'End Process', then make your edit and it'll take effect as desired once you re-open chrome.

  6. Create a Google Chrome shortcut on your desktop by:

A: Right click on your Desktop and go to New > Shortcut
Browse to the chrome.exe file (depending on your set up, it might be found here: usernameAppDataLocalGoogleChromeApplicationchrome.exe) and click Next

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --kiosk --kiosk-printing http://oms.gateway3d.com

    OR

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe --kiosk --kiosk-printing http://oms.gateway3d.com

*Depending on if you have "quotes" or not.

  10. Save, and launch Google Chrome. It should now load in full screen (kiosk) mode

  • If you would like to have the OMS Logo as an Icon instead of the Google Chrome, download the OMS Icon by right clicking on the image below and saving it to your desktop:

    ADD LOGO ICON

  • Then right click on the shortcut on your desktop and go to "Properties" and click on "Shortcut" TAB. On the bottom of window, click on "Change Icon" then "Browse", select the Icon from your desktop, then click OK
